ITO Gin is not your standard “sparkly yarn”. It’s something much more refined.
This is a very fine sewing / embroidery thread that has been metallised with real silver, giving it a completely different quality of shine compared to typical glitter yarns.
Instead of a harsh or synthetic sparkle, Gin has a soft, warm metallic glow - much closer to jewellery than craft glitter.
The base is made from cupro and polyester, which keeps it smooth, flexible and easy to work with, while the silver coating gives it that clean, elevated finish.
Not designed to be used on its own as a knitting yarn. It’s a refinement tool - something you hold alongside another yarn, or use for embroidery and finishing details.
Add it to a plain knit, and suddenly it has depth. Use it for embroidery and you get a subtle metallic highlight that doesn’t look too try-hard.
And very much in the ITO way, it’s all about restraint. This isn’t disco sparkle — it’s a quiet, considered metallic that elevates rather than dominates.
We particularly love it held together with softer bases like Sensai or wool yarns, where it sits gently on the surface and catches the light without taking over the fabric.
Gin vs Kin Gin?
If you’re deciding between the two — think of Gin as the subtle one.
Gin gives you a fine, refined metallic glow that sits quietly in the fabric.
Kin Gin is bolder — more visible sparkle, more statement.
If you want something understated and modern, go Gin.
If you want your project to properly shimmer, go Kin Gin.
Hold Gin alongside Sensai for a soft, glowing halo, or with Kinu for a cleaner, more structured fabric with a subtle metallic lift.
Sooo... If Kin Gin is your obvious sparkle, Gin is its more grown-up, understated sibling.

From the softest silk mohair ever (Sensai) and crisp plant-based blends to softly structured wool and silk yarns, ITO yarns offer a whole world of inspiring possibilities.
At Tribe Yarns, we love ITO for its high-end, thoughtful construction, fresh contemporary feel and uncompromising luxurious finish. The best of Japanese yarns for knitting, crochet and weaving.
ITO translates simply as “yarn” in Japanese. The brand combines traditional Japanese sensibility with innovation, resulting in yarns that feel both timeless and strikingly modern.
We love the fact that the colour palette is subtle, sophisticated and beautifully nuanced, with shades that sit effortlessly together. But with mandatory pops for some edginess that never goes out of fashion, ITO don't change up their colours every single season like some brands - their colours are designed to keep your creations stylish forever.
Our curated ITO Yarns collection at Tribe includes some of the most exciting yarns for contemporary garment knitting, textured accessories and artistic weaving. If you’re looking for yarns with a refined hand-feel, a unique fabric outcome and a distinctly modern edge, ITO is your man.
