OHHHHH.... yarn. Sigh.
We're delighted to welcome Orkney Angora to Tribe: a sustainable, artisan yarn business run by Tracy Ranger from her croft on the beautiful and remote island of Sanday in Orkney.
Orkney Angora’s range includes hand-dyed angora and mohair yarns, with every skein washed, dyed, dried and wound by hand with care and attention to detail.
Orkney Angora is a small, family-run business based on Sanday, one of Orkney’s most northerly isles. Originally established by William and Elizabeth Sichel in 1982, the business was bought by Tracy in 2017 and continues to be run as a very personal operation from her smallholding.
Tracy washes the natural angora and mohair yarns, dyes them, dries them and winds them all by hand. It’s slow, careful, hands-on production - exactly the sort of thing we love at Tribe!
Orkney Angora makes use of clean, wind-generated power for its business activities, including hand dyeing and hank and ball winding.
The angora is responsibly sourced from Feixian Angora Farm, where the fibre is harvested by shearing. Orkney Angora encourages customers to ask where their angora comes from and to buy from responsible sources.
If you love yarn with provenance, softness and a proper story behind it, Orkney Angora is a very special addition to our shelves.
