This is the perfect present for a new baby.  I found the pattern for the flowers on a russian blog several years ago, they are a little bit tricky to start with but once you have got the hang of them this is a simple but very pretty blanket.  There is a chart included with the pattern and it is really helpful to use this along with the written pattern.
