Pure wool from the Faroe Islands

Faroese Yarn is a young brand based in the Danish-German border region – founded by Anja and Francesco on a simple but very clear idea: to use the exceptional wool of the Faroe Islands, their second home, and to restore to it the value it deserves.
The wool comes from one of the oldest sheep breeds in Europe, the North European short-tailed sheep. It was the Vikings who once brought these animals north. On the Faroes, they still live much as they always have – small, intelligent, long-coated sheep roaming freely between mountains and sea, largely unchanged for more than 1,200 years.
For generations, this wool was used almost exclusively for personal needs – until Anja and Francesco began to rethink its potential. Today, they transform it into yarns and fabrics of a purity and character that have become increasingly rare.
They work closely with the people of the islands. Many are friends and neighbours, and during the annual summer shearing, Anja and Francesco are in the sheep pens themselves. The sheep are shorn collectively, with calm, care, and traditional hand shears.
The wool is robust, long-fibred, and full of character. Rich in lanolin and naturally resilient, it differs fundamentally from classic merino wool or modern blended yarns.
This is a yarn with attitude. For people who value honesty, durability, and craftsmanship. For knitters and weavers looking for a yarn that carries stories: of wind, cliffs, northern light, the sea and a landscape that respects its animals and gives them space.
You feel it the moment you work with it. Warm. Distinctive. Honest. Always connected to its origin: the steep hillsides from which the sheep are driven down for hours into the valleys; the hands shearing them in the pens after bread, pancakes, and coffee have been shared at the gates; the washing mill that cleans the fibre with care; and the spinning mill that still understands and values the art of slow spinning.
Faroese Yarn is rare. Its production requires time, knowledge, patience, and a network of people who take both their work and their passion seriously. Anyone who knits or weaves with this yarn will feel that care.
