• ITO Shio is an exceptional 100% extra-fine Merino wool laceweight yarn. At an incredible 480m per 40g cone, it's almost featherlight, yet produces surprisingly durable, elegant fabric that can be worn in any season.

  Used on its own, Shio creates beautifully lightweight lace, shawls and garments with excellent stitch definition and a soft, fluid drape. Openwork patterns really shine, while stocking stitch produces an elegant, almost ethereal fabric.

  We also really LOVE Shio as a companion yarn. Hold it together with another ITO yarn such as Kinu, Sensai, Washi or Tetsu to add softness, warmth, gauge and subtle depth without significantly increasing weight.

  The yarn blooms gently after washing, becoming even softer while retaining crisp stitch definition. You'll find the finished fabric relaxes and develops after blocking.

  Like the rest of the ITO range, the colour palette is sophisticated and beautifully nuanced. Because Shio is so fine, it also works brilliantly for marl effects, allowing you to blend colours together with remarkable subtlety.
