Such an unusual soft silk with a kind of rustic charm thanks to the fiddlehead fern fibre mixed in it. This is a very traditional yarn from the northern part of Japan, Niigata.
This precious silk is a result of very patient recycling. Farmers go out onto the mountain in the Spring to collect edible ferns. There is a brown fibre on the ferns which needs to be picked out before they cook. The farmers will never throw the fibre out, but let it pile in the kitchen. It always gets used as an accent for the silk they spin later.
This yarn is wonderful for lace knitting, a good weft yarn and very rare to find these days.
We love the yarn on its own for an ethereal lacy fabric, held double or triple for a fine Summer garment, or even held together with another luxury yarn like Habu Cashmere N-86.
