Luxuriously soft, smooth and drapey, alpaca and baby alpaca fibre is easily recognised for its gorgeous handle and sheen. Naturally hypo-allergenic, alpaca yarn ranges from ultra-fine (Royal Alpaca) through robust Grade 6, although we only choose the finer grades for our customers (ultra-fine, super-fine or fine). The Tribe team have sourced the most beautiful alpaca and llama yarns, which are a joy to work with and available in a stunning selection of colours and gauges.

Originating from South American countries such as Bolivia, Ecuador, and (famously) Peru, the alpaca is renowned for its super soft wool, a trait that’s become prized and very much sought after in our industry!

As well as being fabulously soft, alpaca yarn is also exceptionally warm (given the chilly altitudes enjoyed by the animal) and stunning in quality, making it an ideal material for cosy winter garments.

Baby alpaca and royal alpaca come from the softest parts of the alpaca, usually around the chest of the animal (nothing to do with the actual age of the alpaca).
