Selene is gasp-worthy. It's a wonderfully unusual and striking yarn from Sesia. Combining shimmering viscose, superkid mohair and silk in a structured, lightweight yarn that catches light like nothing else. And soooo squishy!
The glossy viscose forms a fine chain around a soft, airy core of mohair and silk to give Selene its distinctive balance of luminosity, softness and substance. Metallic gloss and gently hazy, but with considerably more stitch definition and body than a conventional mohair-and-silk lace yarn.
It's the contrast between the fibres that makes it so interesting. The smooth viscose catches the light like metal, while the superkid mo creates a soft halo around the knitted fabric. The silk adds further softness and lustre without making the yarn feel heavy.
Worked in stocking stitch, Selene produces fabric with a subtle surface texture and a beautiful shifting sheen. And it's an exceptional choice for cables and textures.
With 175 metres in each 50g ball, it is a lovely choice for sweaters, statement accessories, cowls & hats.
Unlike a laceweight brushed mohair, Selene doesn't need to be held together with another yarn to create a usable garment fabric. Knit all on its own, let the unusual construction, soft halo and light-reflecting surface to do all the work.
The mohair used in Selene is RMS-certified Superkid Mohair: The Responsible Mohair Standard addresses animal welfare, responsible land management and traceability through the certified supply chain.
