Velveteen Habit is a 100% cotton chenille yarn with that plushy, velvety feel, but done properly.

No PLASTIC. No weird shine. No squeaky needles.  Just soft, breathable cotton with a beautifully tactile pile.

If you’ve written off chenille as “a bit 90s”… fair. But it’s back. And this is the version you actually want to knit with.

Matt, velvety, and surprisingly sophisticated, it creates a fabric that feels rich, cosy, and properly wearable (not costume-y).

We love the instant texture, and all the shadow and depth. It's super cool as a highlight yarn in an intarsia project, a colourwork option, popping texture or just a plain stocking stitch.

Ideal for garments you want to live in, elevated basics, plush accessories, and layering.

{Oh also, the ball band has a nifty snip-off section you can use as a garment label with washing instructions.
    The rest of the ribbon? Book mark? Measuring tape? Temporary belt??}

Here are some pattern ideas for this yarn. We'd love to see what you come up with!

  • Ingredients:
    100% Cotton

    Length:
    250m (273 yards) per ball

    Gauge:
DK / Worsted-ish (depending on needle size)

    Recommended Needle Size:
    4mm – 6mm (but play around)

    Care:
Machine washable on a gentle cycle, or hand wash (we always recommend hand-washing).

Lay flat to dry to keep that plush texture looking its best.

Fabric will soften and settle after washing.

Join in new yarn using Russian Join, as you would for all plant-based yarn:
Thread the yarn tail onto a blunt needle. Run it back through the core of the yarn (ignore the fluff, aim for the centre thread). Do the same with the new yarn
Pull tight and gently smooth the pile back over. Anchor into the core, not the fluff and you'll have no bulky knots. Holds properly with wear.)

  • 100% Cotton Chenille – The Comeback You Didn’t See Coming

Chenille gets a bit of a bad rep. Mostly because a lot of it has been made from synthetic fibres, giving it that overly shiny, slightly squeaky, not-quite-right feel.

    This is not that.

Velveteen Habit is made from 100% cotton, which changes everything. It’s breathable, matte, and has a much more natural handle, making it far more wearable and enjoyable to knit with.

Chenille yarn is constructed with a central core and short fibres that create its signature soft “pile”, giving that velvety texture. In cotton, this feels more refined, less slippery, and far more grounded than its synthetic counterparts.
