  • "Proper tweedy character, spun from exceptionally fine Merino."

Scotland 2 is Sesia's rather brilliant take on a traditional tweed yarn. Developed to mimic traditional Shetland yarn - it has all the softly mottled colour, subtle flecks and slightly rustic appearance we want from a good tweed, but without the itch.

It is spun from 100% RWS-certified Extra Fine Merino wool measuring just 19.5 microns.

In other words, it gives you plenty of character without the coarser feel traditionally associated with many heritage-style wool yarns.

Scotland 2 is a fine, carded, two-ply yarn with a gently woolly surface and a beautifully nuanced palette. The colour is never completely flat: small contrasting flecks and shifts in tone give even the simplest knitting depth and interest.

At 350 metres per 50g ball, it is light enough to create warm garments without excessive weight. Used on its own, it is ideal for fine sweaters, cardigans, colourwork, shawls and accessories. Its generous meterage also makes it a particularly useful yarn for holding together with another strand when you want to add warmth, colour and a subtle tweedy effect.

The carded construction gives Scotland 2 a softer, airier character than a sleek worsted-spun yarn. It is not designed to look polished or perfectly uniform; its appeal lies in that gently fuzzy surface, the irregular flecks and the depth of colour they create.

Simple stocking stitch allows the yarn's tweedy character to do the work, while colourwork takes on a rich, softly blended appearance. It is also a lovely choice for understated texture, although very intricate stitch patterns will naturally appear softer in this woollier construction. It's gorgeous for colourwork.

Scotland 2 belongs to Sesia's British Emotion collection: a group of yarns inspired by traditional British woollen textiles, interpreted through Sesia's Italian spinning expertise. The result feels familiar but noticeably more refined: a proper tweed aesthetic made from genuinely fine Merino.
