OHHHHH.... lana. Suspiro.
Meet Ulysse, the little sibling of Gilliatt! It's a beautiful woollen-spun merino, spun from French Mérinos d'Arles wool from Provence and, depending on the colour, black Portuguese merino from the Alentejo Valley.
Made up of two well-twisted strands, Ulysse is a light, soft and delicately airy sport-weight yarn with a lovely bit of bounce. De Rerum Natura describes it as perfect for "trying your hand at fair isle and colourwork, fine cables or a pretty, rustic lace", and its loftiness makes it very versatile when it comes to gauge - it's happy knitted as a sport or a DK.
The natural shades are created simply by blending white and brown fleeces, with no dye at all: Sel, Poivre Blanc, Poivre et Sel and Poivre. Alongside these there's a large range of subtly heathered dyed colours.
The sheep are raised with consideration for animal welfare and for the value of their wool. This is an ethical yarn that is mulesing-free.
This is a much loved yarn amongst discerning knitters. There are over 17,900 projects on Ravelry using this yarn, at the last count! Check them out here.
We love it!
PS - this yarn is produced at a small mill with precious fleeces, so not all colours are in stock all the time. We order in the colours as they become available, but we don't always know when that will be.

De Rerum Natura is a French yarn company specialising in European merino wool. Sustainability and transparency are at the heart of everything they do, with an emphasis on traceability and reducing the environmental impact of production.
Ulysse combines French Mérinos d'Arles wool from Provence with black Portuguese merino from the Alentejo Valley. De Rerum Natura says its Mérinos d'Arles sheep practise transhumance – an ancient tradition in which flocks are moved between grazing grounds with the seasons, spending the summer in mountain pastures.
The wool is sourced in France and Portugal, washed in Belgium or Italy, then spun and dyed in France, in the Creuse. De Rerum Natura's dyeing unit has its own phyto-treatment plant for its wastewater, and its dyes comply with the European REACH standard (the EU regulation controlling the use of chemicals in manufacturing).
