This simple garter stitch shawl is composed of three sections that grow with short rows and increases. A DK weight version features 3 neutral colors for a gradient effect. A smaller fingering weight version uses 6 colors that are striped in each short row section. An I-cord border finishes the shawl with a strong pop of color.

Sizes

Small (Large) The size is determined by the yarn weight. The small size is knit with fingering weight yarn and the large size is knit with DK weight yarn.

Finished Measurements

92 (106)" / 234 (269)cm wingspan length, 15 (18)" / 38 (46)cm wide. Measurements taken after blocking.

Small striped fingering weight version
Color A - 160yds / 146m (Section 1 & I-cord border)
Color B - 60 yds / 55m (Section 1)
Color C - 145yds / 133m (Section 2)
Color D - 145yds / 133m (Section 2)
Color E - 310yds / 283m (Section 3)
Color F - 310yds / 283m (Section 3)

If you wish to use an extra color for the I-cord, it uses approximately 100yds / 91m of fingering weight yarn.

Large DK weight version
Color A - 140yds / 128m
Color B - 320yds / 293m
Color C - 740yds / 677m
Color D - 80yds / 73m

Needles

3.75mm (4mm) / US 5 (US 6) 40" circular needles

Tension

20 (18) sts & 52 (44) rows = 10cm / 4" in garter stitch
