Painting Bricks Gradient Shawl Kit

We knit Stephen West's Painting Bricks Shawl with one cake of Snek and two threads of Stellaris, and it became one of our favourite accessories and an instant hit. So we've put together some gorgeous combos of Snek and Stellaris so you can make one too :)

Snek is spun from 100% Fine Merino and is very soft yet durable. It is ideal for garments as well as accessories. Each 200g cake gives you 730m of beautifully hand-dyed gradient yarn with absolutely no sharp colour changes - just smooth, artful transitions.

The cake is made from 2 x 100g blanks, so be aware that there will be a knot in the middle (which might act as a useful halfway marker in case you're not sure!).
 
Snek is dyed with shawls in mind. There is usually more of one colour than the other so that you have enough colour for the longer rows at the end. 

Note that you can pull from the outside of the cake or the centre, depending on which colour you want to use first.

Stellaris is a thin, pretty, sparkly yarn which we use as the "bricks" in this pattern. It creates a sparkly, ethereal fabric which is perfectly framed by garter rows of Snek. Hold two threads together for strength and depth.
