When dyeing a single T-shirt, they recommend using half the quantities given.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eHow to dye\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e1. Wash your yarn or textile.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWash out dirt, stains and starch, then leave the material wet ready for dyeing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e2. Dissolve the dye.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003ePut the dye into a heat-resistant container and add approximately 500ml boiling water. Add your wet yarn or textile.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMove the material regularly through the dye bath to encourage an even result.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePlant fibres:\u003c\/strong\u003e dye for approximately 20–30 minutes while stirring.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAnimal fibres such as wool and silk:\u003c\/strong\u003e dye for approximately 20–30 minutes, stirring gently. Wool and other animal fibres can shrink easily, so avoid sudden changes in temperature and rough handling. ITO recommends using a coarse net bag for wool yarn and easily-shrinking wool fabrics.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eDyeing blended plant \u0026amp; animal fibres\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen dyeing a blend of plant and animal fibres, use both salt and vinegar.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePrepare approximately 7 litres of warm water at 30°C or above and add approximately 60g salt. Add the dissolved dye and mix well.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlace the wet textile in the dye bath and move it regularly for approximately 10–20 minutes. Remove the textile, add approximately 100ml vinegar to the dye liquor, then return the textile to the dye bath for a further 10–20 minutes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eImportant:\u003c\/strong\u003e ITO states that the auxiliaries need to be used in the correct order or they will not work properly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eWant a lighter or darker colour?\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor a \u003cstrong\u003elighter colour\u003c\/strong\u003e, reduce the amount of dye. \u003cstrong\u003eDo not reduce the amount of auxiliary.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor a \u003cstrong\u003edarker colour\u003c\/strong\u003e:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eRaise the dyeing temperature to 50°C or above\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eUse 1.5–2 times the instructed amount of dye and auxiliary\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eExtend the dyeing time to approximately 30–60 minutes\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou can also \u003cstrong\u003ecombine 1–3 dye colours\u003c\/strong\u003e to create your own shades.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eAfter dyeing\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWash the dyed material with water, then wash with lukewarm water and neutral liquid kitchen detergent.
