One could spend a long time trying to think of two countries more different from each other than Finland and Argentina. The contrasts and distance between them are unimaginable. However, contrasts are usually what make anything in life interesting and good.
Veera Välimäki (Finland) and Joji Locatelli (Argentina) share many things in life, including their passion for knitwear design. Each year, Veera and Joji get together to put their minds to work on a collaborative design project. They discovered that even when they stay true to their styles and aesthetics, because of their interesting contrasts, their work together becomes something totally enriching.
Their collaborative collections are called Interpretations, and with each new year both designers get ready to work on their own interpretation of six different words. But to achieve a balanced and cohesive collection, the design process happens within a shared environment.
Building this up is wonderful, watching ideas and interpretations slowly turn into beautiful knitted garments. It is incredible to see everything become these wonderful and balanced little collections. You will find a varied array of pullovers, cardigans, shawls and smaller accessories in each book, but each piece will be carefully thought and planned.
The making of these projects is always full of joy, happiness and laughter, with occasional start-overs. We hope you find inspiration in Veera & Joji’s collaborative design work, it is their hope that some of all the love they put in it shows through these books.
Veera is the woman behind the hand knitting designs of Rain Knitwear Designs. Her designs focus on simple and clean lines with small modern details. She is passionate about wool and loves all kinds of short rows.
Joji enjoys living her life in sunny Buenos Aires, while dreaming of visiting the rest of the world armed with knitting needles and yarn. She also thinks life is much sweeter when served with coffee and chocolate...
