The Hat and the Mitts have a flower section knit using the Roosimine technique. The technique is described in the pattern, however, if you prefer not to use this method, Mona has included a sub section which will enable a standard fair isle flower to be knit instead!

Suggested needles:
Legwarmers: 2.75mm (US 2) and 3.25mm (US 3) DPNs or circular needles for magic loop
Mitts and Hat: 2.5mm (US 1.5) and 3.0mm (US 2.5) DPNs or circular needles for magic loop

This fabulous 100% Shetland wool has been expertly hand-dyed by Sarah Finley from her studio in North Essex.

Gathered Sheep Shetland wool is grown by the sheep who live on the Shetland archipelago and spun by a family owned mill who are also based on the islands.

The wool produced by the small but hardy Shetland sheep amongst the finest of any British sheep breed. With its soft, silky handle garments made from Shetland wool are strong, soft and durable.

Like merino, many people who find wool to be irritating to their skin find that garments made from Shetland wool are comfortable and not itchy at all.

We love this wool for its provenance, its insulatory qualities, its handle, its sustainability. This 100% pure Shetland wool has not been superwash treated and contains absolutely no nylon!

This is a woollen spun yarn, meaning its lofty, lightweight, traps more air for warmth in the Winter.

We think Sarah's colour palette is stunning on this gorgeous wool, with each flattering and warm shade beautifully complimenting the next. Used together, the yarn would create beautiful colourwork, but is stunning on its own too.

Based in North Essex, 'Gathered Sheep Yarns' is a one woman dye studio owned and run by Sarah, an indie dyer, who has a deep passion for colour.

Sarah's focus is to work with natural products as much as possible. Her Shetland wool is grown by the sheep who live on the island and spun by a family owned mill who are also based on Shetland.

Sarah also works with pattern designers who are based both in the UK and overseas. 'Our focus is to inspire knitters to pick up their needles and have fun with colour!'
